PGCE graduate fair June 2012

12 June 2012

EducateFirst provided PGCE graduates from the The University of Huddersfield tutoring opportunities to kick start their career.

Having attended several recruitment fairs on previous occasions the EducateFirst team was once again looking forward to this summer’s event in Huddersfield.

The turnout was high with many students gaining valuable information and advice as they try to apply for teaching opportunities and posts in what is a very competitive market. With an increasing number of graduates seeking employment in the education sector, teaching jobs are becoming very scarce.

EducateFirst has pioneered a valuable teaching and learning project within several communities in and around Yorkshire. The project has not only provided educational support to local children but has provided new teachers, PGCE students and NQTs the opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience…and get paid for it.

Attendees at the graduate fair showed a great deal of interest in working with EduateFirst at our current learning centres in Leeds, Huddersfield and Dewsbury. The news of a new learning centre soon to open in Bradford (September 2012) providing opportunities for up to 12 new teachers became a key talking point among the graduates, with over 80% applying for teaching positions on the day.

In addition to paid work, we are also able to offer a small number of graduates voluntary work at our learning centres, offering valuable teaching experience that will add value to their CV and enhance their career prospects – a definite step in the right direction.

For tutors not wanting to work in a classroom environment, EducateFirst is able to offer one-to-one home tutoring opportunities covering a wide range of subjects and levels throughout the UK.

Exclusive for PGCE graduates from The University of Huddersfield – in addition to the complementary nibbles and give-aways, graduates were offered a FREE CV service where our staff discuss the content of their CV, application form and cover letter for teaching posts they may wish to apply for.

Could not make it to the event? Don’t worry, we hope to meet you at future events. In the meantime, you may register with us here.

Again we wish to thank the dedicated staff at The University Huddersfield who worked very to make this a successful event for employers and their graduates.
